What is Improv?

Improv is something everyone can do.

Improv Comedy is the art of creating comedy pieces without preparation. An act would typically take a nugget of inspiration from their audience, in forms varying from single words to full stories, and perform games and sketches and even full plays using only that.

It’s a skill that takes an innate ingenuity that we all have and uses it to explore ideas and concepts organically and often in a way that anyone can relate to.

Improvisation is also play, no matter what form it takes. Be it comedy, jazz, sport or anything else.

When watching improv comedy you have the opportunity to put forward an idea and have the actors on stage explore it, often in a way you may never have considered yourself. When practicing improv yourself you have the opportunity to open yourself up and realise your ability to craft and create stories in a way you never thought you could.
